Urgent warning to drivers over growing hazard that could cost you hundreds to repair… – The Scottish Sun

AN URGENT warning has been sent out to drivers over the growing hazard of disposable vapes.
Iain Kinnear, a garage manager from Dundee, said customers are having to fork out hundreds of pounds to replace damaged tyres caused by e-cigs.
He revealed that there has been a "sudden influx" of motorists coming into his garage with burned or punctured tyres, The Courier reported.
And it would be costing them £100 to replace a tyre.
Iain said: "It’s a needless expense given the cost of living these days.
"People are already struggling and they’re having to fork out for a new tyre."
Throwaway e-cigarettes have become hugely popular in recent years as many people across the country try to move away from smoking tobacco.
But the colourful electronic alternatives have raised environmental and health concerns over littering and young people, including school kids, getting hooked on them.
And the Scottish Government will give "consideration" to outlawing the devices, Humza Yousaf has said.
A man told the Courier that his wife was left with a £360 bill after a disposable vape burned through two tyres on her car.
He said: "Last week a group of yobs hanging about outside a takeaway in Broughty Ferry threw something on the road in front of my wife’s car.
"A few minutes later she heard a loud hissing noise from one of her tyres and a flat tyre warning light came on.
"It turned out a vape a burned a hole through the inside sidewall of one of the tyres."
Disposable vapes burn through the rubber due to the lithium inside them.
Laura Young, a climate activist, explained: "If it looks anything like a burn, that will have been the lithium battery.
"When lithium batteries are damaged and the insides are exposed to earth’s materials, like water and air, it can cause a chemical reaction which is almost like a mini explosion."
