Do EVs need an oil change?

Electric vehicles (EVs) do not have a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) that requires lubrication with engine oil. Instead, they use an electric motor that runs on a battery pack.

Therefore, there is no need for an oil change in EVs.

However, some EVs do use oil in their gearbox to lubricate the gears and bearings. The gearbox oil is different from engine oil, and it is typically a type of synthetic oil that is more durable and has better performance characteristics for the specific gearbox it's designed for.

The gearbox oil should be checked and replaced as per the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule.

In general, EVs require less maintenance than traditional ICE vehicles, but they still need to be serviced regularly.

Apart from checking the gearbox oil, other components such as brakes, suspension, and tyres also need to be inspected and replaced as needed. Regular maintenance will help ensure that the EV operates at optimal performance and avoids costly repairs down the road.
