Christian Horner believes that Max Verstappen's choice of tyre compound was irrelevant in his drive to the Miami Grand Prix victory.
Christian Horner believes that Max Verstappen would have claimed the Miami Grand Prix victory by starting on any compound on tyre.
The race at the Miami International Autodrome developed into a battle of strategy between the Red Bull teammates, with pole-sitter Sergio Perez starting on Medium compounds tyres, and Verstappen starting on Hard tyres in P9.
With Verstappen making light work of the cars in between, he extended his stint on the Hard tyres to irradicate Perez's advantage from the opening laps.
Pitting for Mediums, the reigning champion was then able use the fresh tyres to pass Perez with less than ten laps to go and secure victory.
Speaking after the race, Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner was asked if the tyre strategies made the difference between the two drivers in Miami.
"You can see that the data was coming up with the same answers, and the highest probable points score was actually for Max to start on the on the Mediums," Horner told Sky Sports F1.
"To be honest with you today, I think with the pace he had, it wouldn't have mattered if he just started on the on the Soft, the Medium or the Hard tyre.
"It made it an interesting race, because he had to manage that tyre early on, but his pace, as it has been all weekend, has just been outstanding."
