A MIDLANDS motorist caught doing 174kph on a space saver tyre was arrested and charged with dangerous driving.
Gardaí said this morning that the Offaly Roads Policing Unit pulled in the car for speeding at 174kph in a 100kph zone.
They discovered that the car was fitted with a space saver tyre, which allows a maximum speed of 80kph. The driver was arrested and charged with dangerous driving.
Gardaí said that a sample was also taken from the driver and more charges may be preferred.
Meanwhile, another driver was caught doing 145kph in a 100kph zone and received a fixed penalty notice.
