For a long time it looked like Verstappen could well run away with pole position for the Miami Grand Prix, but things went wrong in Q3. After a mistake in his first run and a red flag caused by Charles Leclerc, the Dutchman failed to set a time, and had to start ninth. On Sunday, however, the race went flawlessly for the Red Bull driver, allowing him to win after all.
Still, Jan Lammers thinks the race gave a distorted picture of Verstappen's performance: "Max's tyre strategy really fitted the day perfectly. On Friday during practice, the track was 45 degrees, with little rubber, so the mediums slid more over the asphalt. Yet Perez started on medium, which meant he had to give up a little bit more than Max especially in his first stint. Max drove fantastic, of course, but the strategy didn't come out completely fair."
