A motorist who rammed a police car until it crashed into a bus shelter has been given a suspended jail sentence. Adam Wrobel, 53, was arrested on January 27 after driving a BMW X1 on Dorcan Way, Swindon in a dangerous condition before colliding with a police car.
Wrobel, of Milverton Court, Swindon was stopped by police for driving a vehicle with completely deflated tyres but refused to get out of his vehicle and instead drove off. A number of officers pursued him while others deployed a stinger to puncture the remaining tyres. Wrobel was then boxed in by police cars.
He then accelerated, ramming the bumper of one of the police cars into a bus shelter which was luckily not occupied at the time. Wrobel appeared in court last week and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. Inspector Will Ayres on Wiltshire Police described the vehicle as "completely unroadworthy".

Wrobel was handed an 18 month disqualification and a 16 week prison sentence suspended for 18 months. He must also complete 180 hours of unpaid work, pay £85 CPS costs and £154 surcharge.
Inspector Ayres said: “The sentence given reflects the seriousness of the driver’s actions. He was driving a vehicle which was clearly in a dangerous condition and completely unroadworthy – the vehicle was totally devoid of any rubber on the front near side tyre which was leaving grooves in the road surface as a result.
“Wrobel then went on to ram a police vehicle in an attempt to evade capture, putting other road users and pedestrians at risk. It was extremely fortunate that nobody was waiting at the bus stop at the time, as this could have had extremely tragic consequences.”
